Meriken Park is about a ten-minute walk south of Motomachi Station or just across the sightseeing cruise terminal from Kobe Harborland. It was opened in 1987 as a waterfront park on the reclaimed space between Meriken Pier (built in 1868) and Naka Pier. The park, a space of 15ha (39ac) located close to the downtown area, includes a boardwalk, Kobe Maritime Museum, and other recreational facilities for visitors.
