Only 160m away from the hypocenter are the ruins of the former Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall. Once a stately building completed in 1915, it was used for various industrial exhibitions, and to promote the industrial achievements of the district. The ruined building has been preserved in the state that it was in immediately after the bombing, to be a reminder of the tragedy. In December 1996, the Atomic Bomb Dome was registered as a World Cultural Heritage.
