Along the hillside of Mabuni, Peace Memorial Park was opened in 1983, after aa years of construction work, with many features, such as the Okinawa Peace Memorial Hall, the Okinawa Prefectural Peace Memorial Museum, and the Cornerstone of Peace. On the Cornerstone of Peace stand many rows of slabs of granite stone, on which have been engraved the names of the war dead (more than 242,000 in total), regardless of their nationality.
